Main Methods of Payment:
While all major credit cards are widely accepted, many of the street vendors prefer cash. We recommend all visitors carry around USD $50 in cash just in case. Some of the newer vendors also accept payment apps like Zelle or Venmo.
Sales Tax/ GST:

General Climate:
For the most part the Big Island is known for having wonderful warm tropical weather year-round. The resort side of the island normally has an average temperature range from 78 F - 85 F. May to October is considered "summer months" with November to March considered "winter months" being the months more prone to rain. Don't worry though, it is very possible to have part of the island experiencing rain while other parts are bathed in sunshine.
Getting Around the City:
We HIGHLY recommend renting a car. The island is massive and you will need your own vehicle to properly explore. The island does not have extensive public transport system and rideshares can be extremely expensive.
Electronic Appliance Support:
120 V with a frequency of 60 Hz
Safety:
The island is considered very safe. We still recommend that you practice safe travel rules. Especially while driving. The island is known to experience a higher frequency of road accidents because many visitors are tempted to speed. Also please use safe practices when exploring the beaches as many visitors get injured while exploring the rocky coastal areas.
Cultural Norms:
The Hawaiian culture is a beautiful mix of love, friendly energy, all wrapped up in beautiful stories from the locals. A local Hawaiian will enjoy sharing the Island's brave history from their royal ancestors as well as parts of their culture that you still see thriving today. Be respectful of nature while on the island. If you allow yourself to connect with your surroundings and unplug from the hustle and bustle, the Big Island is magical.
