Genting Highlands is known as the casino district of Malaysia and the duties on the casinos are at 35% (based on gross gaming revenue). There is a tourism tax of RM10/night and is applied to a visitor’s room charges upon check-in at one of hotels located on the Highlands.

General Climate:

The temperature is much cooler when compared to Kuala Lumpur as the city is located in the highlands of Malaysia. Generally, you can expect a humid tropical climate with plenty of rain throughout the year.  The weather conditions in general are favorable for being outdoors as well.

Getting Around the City:

The Highlands are a series of inter-connected hotels and casinos with an amusement park in the center. It is extremely easy to walk around the actual highlands. There is also a cable car experience to get vantage point views.

Genting Highlands is a tourist destination and a dream place for the people who enjoy beautiful mountains as well as gambling. It is a relatively safe place to visit.  It does however,  have the many of the same issues that most big cities face, you should be aware of petty theft that does occur.  Not to forget scammers who are prevalent in tourist destinations and try to sell you cheap quality items and genuine imitations.

Cultural Norms:

The Highlands are often referred to as the "City of Entertainment". If you are not planning on spending the night, you can take a bus from Kuala Lumpur and purchase the special pass which includes a return bus ticket, cable car ride and a day pass for the outdoor theme park. Genting Highlands has a few hotels and has a mixture of old-world charm and modernization. There aren’t any streets in Genting Highlands, so don't worry about getting lost.
