Shenzhen is sometimes referred to as the Silicon Valley of China due to the strong presence of tech and electronic goods manufacturers. It is the third biggest port city in China and is at a short distance from both Hong Kong and Macau. Shenzhen is one of China’s newly developed cities and most of the labor force are migrants from different provinces of China who have settled down in Shenzhen due to the technological boom in this area. The government has worked hard towards developing Shenzhen into a metropolitan hub similar to Shanghai and Hangzhou. Language is a huge barrier in China and is one of the biggest challenges. It is not uncommon for Taxi drivers and residents to speak little or no English, however the younger generation does speak and understand basic English. China is a very fast paced country and the people are always on the move. Do not be offended if while on the streets someone bumps into you and keeps going, it’s not personal they just have somewhere to go and are focused on getting to their destination.
