There are two kinds of people in the world

Those who brunch and those who don’t

I’ll  let you guess as to which category we fall into.

We love brunch

Whoever coined the phrase “lazy Sunday”

had just finished brunch

This is a story of how we discovered a local eatery that satisfied our brunch cravings and had us remembering the delicious waffles we had across the ocean.

How it All Began

As all good stories .. our tale beings with a dream

Our dreams almost always involve food, travel or both. This time was no different

Aamir and I were reminiscing about our fabulous trip to Brussels and how the waffles in Belgium were second to none.

The light, crispy exterior, the soft fluffy interior, not too sweet but still flavorful.

 Mouth-Watering

The more we spoke, the firmer my resolve became, we needed to find a waffle place that could satisfy our cravings on this side of the Pacific.

Enter More than Waffles

With over 2,000 Yelp reviews and a 4.5-star rating, this spot caught our attention and we were intrigued.

Would this place live up to the hype?

Would our quest for a delicate and tasty waffle end here?

And the most important question.

Who is going to drive?

Nestled inside an unassuming shopping center, the actual restaurant is quaint and has nik-naks that give a very homey and welcoming ambiance. We were greeted by the owner of the restaurant, the absolutely stunning Ika

After having a chance to sit down and speak with the Ika, we understood why this eatery is a local favorite.

Ika has a personality that ensures that everyone who walks into the restaurant is treated like family

She took time to show talk about the actual restaurant, its’ history (est in 1975), as well as her personal, deep connection (she met her husband here, super super cute). When Ika spoke about the restuarant you could hear the genuine love that she has not only for her place of business but also for her employees that she values like family.

At the time of our visit, Ika had mentioned that one of their long time employees had passed and how much of a loss it was for her personally. This is what makes communities grow and thrive. Small businesses that have managers and owners that care.

Ika also took the time to walk us through the extensive (no joke, its a huge) menu and we were blown away by all the options available, even for those with dietary needs.

It’s always a huge plus in our book when an eatery has the ability to adjust and cater to people with special request. It is also super important to note that Ika spends a lot of time working with the chefs to ensure that the taste is not compromised.

Gluten free? Vegatarian? Don’t like tomatoes? They have you covered.

Its also a big win when there are options. We don’t know about you, but sometimes you go into a place and you have a vague idea what you want, but you’re not sure.. sweet? savory? both? ugh.. decisions.. anyways it’s nice when you have a variety. sometimes all you need to do is read through a menu and something clicks…

Thus ends the stress of ordering and we can commence getting yummy food into our tummies.

It took us a while to make our final choices. We spoke to Ika and asked her to give us half portions of the food we wanted to try because the portion sizes are generous and we would hate to waste food. It was a smart decision on our end because when the food started coming out, we realized … this was going to be a LOT of food.

We ended up ordering a plain original Belgian Waffle.  We wanted to get at least one waffle (yes we had more than one, please don’t judge) without all the bells and whistles because that honestly is the true taste test. We can honestly say the waffle was delicious.

Ika had mentioned that in comparison to the waffles we got in Belgium theses would be a bit denser because of the flour availability here in the US.

Yes, they were not as light as the ones we devoured overseas but we are not complaining as they were still lighter than anything we have eaten stateside to date.

Ika also suggested her favorite Mediterranian Potatoes.

Holy Moly, we DEVOURED those potatoes. They had the perfect blend of cheese, spices, tomatoes and of course potatoes. We can honestly say we would go back for those potatoes. so good.

We also tried the eggs benedict, breakfast burrito, eggs benedict and a dessert waffle.

Now you know why we asked for half portions. we were STUFFED.

The only item we would pass on the next time we go in is the burritto. There were soo many great options that we would focus on when we go back, like the potatoes. oh my god the potatoes.

The dessert waffle was delicious, decadant and full of chooclate.

We suggest that when you order you share everything. For two reasons.

One: Sharing is caring (don’t worry their portion sizes are generous)

Two: You will get to try everything and yes, you want to try as many offerings this place has to offer as possible.

With a great, cozy atmosphere and good food, we would recommend everyone give it a try. We want to thank Ika for being such a gracious host and really making us fall in love with the place before we were even served food.It really goes to show that at the heart of any great eatery, there is a group of people who love what they do and it shows in the food.

It is now 7 PM and we want waffles. sigh… till next time

  1. Dang all of those pictures look AMAZING, need to check this place out once lockdown is over – I’d been thinking of a new brunch place to try!

Oh man this place is WORTH IT. Very rarely do we find a place where EVERYTHING is delicious. They are open for takeout as well as have a large outdoor patio space that is open. We went during Covid and we were super impressed with the SOP’s that Ika has put in place. It took longer to get a table but the sanitation and hygene was 100% on point.
